Board Spotlight: Kelly Miller, FlaSEIA Secretary
Board Spotlight: Kelly Miller, FlaSEIA Secretary
FlaSEIA Secretary | Stilwell Solar, Estero, FL
Kelly Miller is Secretary of the FlaSEIA Board of Directors and co-owner of Stilwell Solar, a full-service solar contractor serving Southwest Florida from Estero. She was elected to the board by members of Florida’s solar and storage industry.
“Being elected by your peers means a lot. As Secretary, I want to make sure our members’ voices are heard and that FlaSEIA keeps working for the people who do this work every day.”
From the Courtroom to Solar
Kelly’s curiosity about solar started young. In eighth grade, after bringing home a small solar panel as a souvenir from a family trip, she wired it to a fan for a school science project and tested how different shades of film over the panel changed the fan’s output.
Her career took a different route first. She earned her law degree in 1995 and served as a prosecuting attorney for St. Louis County, work built on solving problems, earning trust, and making the case. Those are the same skills she leans on in solar today, helping homeowners understand their options and feel confident about the decision. She still keeps her law license, just in case, but her focus now is squarely on solar, where she holds CVC and CPC contractor licenses.
At Stilwell Solar
As co-owner of Stilwell Solar, Kelly is committed to clean energy and to building a close-knit team. What energizes her most is being part of the day-to-day business and its inner workings, from working with customers to nurturing the people she describes as a second family. The most rewarding part is watching solar change people’s lives, whether that is a warmer pool without the added cost or a long-term investment that lowers a homeowner’s bills over time.
Serving FlaSEIA
Kelly ran for the board to make sure small business owners have a seat at the table. She wants advocacy and policy to reflect the whole industry, not just manufacturers and distributors, with real attention to affordability and to guiding the organization’s mission forward.
As Secretary, her top priority is education. Many people still do not understand how solar works, why it lowers a bill, or how it pays off as a long-term investment. She wants FlaSEIA to expand educational resources for homeowners and students, including partnering with the Department of Energy, and to raise awareness of options people rarely hear about, like solar thermal.
